Why do people lose weight
when they don't eat sugar?
The Mechanism of Obesity
Obesity is due to the over-consumption of carbohydrates. When foods high in carbohydrate are consumed, blood sugar levels temporarily spike, causing the release of insulin--the hormone responsible for converting glucose in the blood into energy
Insulin allows blood sugar to be absorbed by muscle cells, using it as an energy source. Unused glucose is stored until needed. However, there is a limit to the amount of glucose that muscle cells can store. Excess glucose that cannot be stored is converted into fat--accumulating and causing weight gain. (Insulin is also known as the "obesity hormone".)
